Silk Painting for Wearable Art
In Silk Painting for Wearable Art, master silk painting artist Natasha Foucault works on a variety of silk frames and fabric sizes, all designed for wearing out on the town or around the pool.
Natasha works on ‘blanks’ in this workshop on larger scale frames for scarves and a very large floor frame that can accommodate shawls and kimono-sized panels of fabric. Developing wearable art is her forté and we explore a variety of techniques and considerations for working in large scale work, working fast, and developing successful larger lengths of fabric. The workshop includes a discussion on how to build a larger frame at home as well as design considerations for wearables and working on smaller and larger projects in your studio.
Master working from small to large frames for a variety of wearable art! Ideal workshop for those interested in silk painting for wearables, as well as those interested in making a living as a textile artist. Ideal for all levels of Silk Painters as well as those interested in textile arts, fashion and fabric design.

Join Natasha Foucault in this introduction to the masterclass series, she’ll take you through the materials you will need, the design process, transferring designs onto silk, working with gutta and mixing colours.

Now you’re all set up, you’ll get to work on a contemporary silk project, first you’ll consider a gallery of other contemporary work before applying transparent and black gutta to make a Kandinsky inspired scarf.

For this session, you’ll learn about traditional projects – again viewing a gallery of traditional works – before experimenting with autumn colours with grapes and the salt technique. Natasha will guide you to create Calla Lilies and use the semi-dry technique to form a versatile square poncho.

In Session 4 you will master the process of steam fixing your silks. Natasha provides an excellent overview of steam fixing with a stove top steamer, and this session includes a clip from the workshop “Silk Painting with Jill Kennedy” to provide alternative steam fixing methods worth exploring.

In the final session of the series, you will create a micro-inspired camisole and view the highlights of Natasha’s Viennese Poncho before she supports you in where to go from here in your silk painting journey for creating your own wearable art.

A comprehensive, in-depth Masterclass Pack is provided upon purchase to this course. Course members will also receive access to a contemporary silk scarf pattern, an autumn colours pattern, a calla lillies poncho pattern and a miro inspired poncho pattern.

Natasha Foucault began her journal as a classically trained oil painter who moved to silk paints in her early 20’s. Travels, photographs and events soon became themes for her work which explore still life, landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes and contemporary art.
Natasha’s works on silk have been exhibited and sold in both museums and commercial galleries throughout the world. Her book, “Silk Diary, An Artist’s Journey from Moscow to Mendocino“, co-authored with Jeanne-Michele Salander, combines a collection of Natasha’s silk art, stories of her life as an artist, and her signature painting techniques is available from Galli Creative.
