Improv Quilt-As-You-Go
In this session, Sarah Ashford will help you to realise this improvised ‘quilt as you go’ technique with the possibility of making a cushion. There’s lots of freedom to have fun with fabric in this class; there’s only a little bit of measuring required, but we do it as we go along and having lots of scraps to hand is really important – it’s a really liberating technique and you will be on your way to having a striking cushion panel by the end of it!
Please Note: This class does not include details of how to make the full cushion, just the 16 1/2” cushion front to fit a 16” cushion pad.
You will learn:
- The Quilt-As-You-Go Technique
- Top tips for machine quilting
- How to balance pattern and colours
- How to work in an improvised way
- How to have fun with scraps

Materials You Will Need
Please note these materials are not included with purchase of this class, the following materials will need to be bought separately.
- A ‘feature’ print for the centre of the cushion eg. a flower, animal, motif, approx 3” – 5” plus seam allowance. (Cut motif to the nearest inch or half inch)
- 1/4” foot
- A selection of scraps to choose from
- Approximately 18” square batting
- Sewing machine Iron and ironing board nearby
- Hera marker or your preferred marking tool
Preparation

Could follow all procedures but I am glad that I can go back and view later when I need to check what I am doing again. At an in-person workshop you cannot do that.
