Trees are a timeless, inspirational source of texture, colour and pattern and are accessible to all, Jan and Jean have each developed an idea and design based on the tree theme.
Throughout this masterclass, they will talk about processes and materials as well as threads and fabrics. Their individual works will be shown through all the stages from design to completion using bonded applique and hand stitching. Straight stitch, but not as you may know it, will be explored and exploited. It will end with a gallery of their work incorporating these techniques.

Materials & Preparation
Materials You Will Need
Please note these materials are not included with purchase of this class, the following materials will need to be bought separately.
- Easy to stitch into background fabric.
- Variety of threads and knitting wools (not textured). Thick to thin.
- A close-up image of a tree.
- Range of Chenille needles.
- Frame (optional).
- Small scraps of fabric that tone with your threads.
- A small piece of bondaweb.
- Choose colours to reflect or exaggerate your chosen image.
Meet the Masters: Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn, "Double Trouble"
Jan and Jean are internationally known textile artists, authors and lecturers. They have exhibited and sold their textiles around the world and they have always encouraged their students to understand their processes but to develop an individual style.
They share a passion for stitch in its many forms which they combine with mixed media as an approach to their personal work.
They are the creative force behind their company, Double Trouble Enterprises and they sell through this outlet the many books and DVDs that they have written and produced.

About the Masterclasses
Our classes vary in length, with some being one-session specials and others series. You can find out the length of any class by viewing its details on the Immediate Live Academy website.
For our on-demand classes, you can get a feel for the style of the class, its key learnings and who the tutor is by watching the trailer for the session(s) before purchasing.
All of our on-demand content is provided with optional subtitles in English (GB).

You can revisit classes you have already seen by logging-in to your account. You will be able to see the classes you have purchased under the ‘My Content’ tab. From here you can view your class.
If you would like to check when you purchased the class you can do so by going to ‘My Account’ and looking under the ‘Order History’ tab.

Yes, after you have purchased your class you will be able to download any supporting documents you need on the class page ahead of taking part in the session.
Please check the ‘Order History’ tab in ‘My Account’ to ensure that your order been successful. If it has, your Masterclass will appear under the ‘My Content’ of ‘My Account’.

Payment Questions
To pay for a class, you will need to click ‘Buy Now’ to add the class to your basket and click ‘Proceed to Checkout’. Using the Website
Liking a class saves it to your ‘Wishlist’ for 30 days. You must be logged in to save a Wishlist, and you can find this in ‘My Account’. Once you have saved a product to your Wishlist you are able to come back and purchase the class at a later date (within 30 days).
You can use the search function by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the website and typing in a key word, phrase or presenter name. You can also browse and search classes by category, using the options in the top left-hand corner of the site, and use our filtering options.
To refine your search, click on the filter icon to see all filter options. Select the fields you would like to filter by and click ‘Apply Filter’.
To reset these fields, click ‘clear all’.
