In this masterclass, expert quilter Dawn Cameron will guide you through her ‘no curve piecing’ approach to Seeds (more commonly known as ‘The Orange Peel’). You will master the technique to stitch this iconic shape, without any bonding product, to create Dawn’s ‘Summer Seeds’ quilt.
Following Dawn’s expertise, you’ll be confident to set up your machine, prepare the templates, stitch the blocks and use some of your favourite scraps to make an exciting Seed quilt with Dawn’s Invisible Machine Applique technique. You’ll also consider various layouts and colourways that you can utilise to make your quilt as special as possible.

- How to prepare your machine for the technique

- Making and positioning your templates

Materials You Will Need

- ¼ metre Freezer Paper
- Spray Starch
- A very small paintbrush
- YLI or Aurifil Invisible thread
- 60 weight YLI or Mettler cotton thread in medium grey
- 70/10 Microtex Sharps needles
- 8” X 8” white fabric
- Four 6 ½” squares of neutral background fabric
- Four 6 ½” squares of various “Seed” fabrics…the bolder the better!
- Sharp pencil or a fine Frixion pen
- Scissors
- Iron & ironing mat
- Sewing Machine
Meet the Master: Dawn Cameron Dick
Dawn has been a quiltmaker since the 1970’s but in the 1980’s she was challenged by her Belgian students to teach them a way to “hand applique on the sewing machine”! Using no bonding products, any multi stitch sewing machine and easily sourced products, Dawn created Invisible Machine Applique. Once learned you will invisibly applique any shape, bias stem, curve or even mitre your borders! Dawn’s written two books on the technique and has taught it all over the world. Dawn is known for educating on the use of appropriate threads and needles for the very best results.

About the Masterclasses
Our classes vary in length, with some being one-session specials and others series. You can find out the length of any class by viewing its details on the Immediate Live Academy website.
For our on-demand classes, you can get a feel for the style of the class, its key learnings and who the tutor is by watching the trailer for the session(s) before purchasing.
All of our on-demand content is provided with optional subtitles in English (GB).

You can revisit classes you have already seen by logging-in to your account. You will be able to see the classes you have purchased under the ‘My Content’ tab. From here you can view your class.
If you would like to check when you purchased the class you can do so by going to ‘My Account’ and looking under the ‘Order History’ tab.

Yes, after you have purchased your class you will be able to download any supporting documents you need on the class page ahead of taking part in the session.
Please check the ‘Order History’ tab in ‘My Account’ to ensure that your order been successful. If it has, your Masterclass will appear under the ‘My Content’ of ‘My Account’.

Payment Questions

Using the Website
Liking a class saves it to your ‘Wishlist’ for 30 days. You must be logged in to save a Wishlist, and you can find this in ‘My Account’. Once you have saved a product to your Wishlist you are able to come back and purchase the class at a later date (within 30 days).
You can use the search function by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the website and typing in a key word, phrase or presenter name. You can also browse and search classes by category, using the options in the top left-hand corner of the site, and use our filtering options.
To refine your search, click on the filter icon to see all filter options. Select the fields you would like to filter by and click ‘Apply Filter’.
